This pair of silver earrings leaves the bench in Midyat, a town in Mardin province long identified with worked silver. Telkâri filigree, where thin silver wire is drawn, wound and fused into airy pattern, shapes the whole surface. The tulip is a classic Ottoman ornament, stylised rather than drawn from life.
