The Sümer Telkari workshop in Midyat, part of Mardin province in south-eastern Turkey, produces this two-piece set by hand. Its telkâri work, filigree built from drawn silver wire soldered into open patterns, is done entirely at the bench. The vav is the Arabic letter long used as an ornamental motif in Ottoman calligraphy. The atelier answers questions about this piece on its own site.
