This silver necklace is bench-made by Sümer Telkari in Midyat, the silversmithing town of Mardin province in south-eastern Turkey. It is worked in telkâri, the wire filigree technique that fills a silver frame with tiny curled threads. Floral shapes organise the surface, a staple of the local repertoire. Remaining questions are best put to the workshop itself.
