Sümer Telkari keeps the Mardin silver tradition at its bench in Midyat, and this necklace is worked there by hand. The openwork is telkâri, a filigree method of soldering spun silver wire into lace-like fields. Its vav motif takes the Arabic letter, a favourite shape in Ottoman calligraphic ornament.
