This necklace leaves the bench in Midyat, a town in Mardin province long identified with worked silver. Telkâri, meaning filigree, gives the piece its openwork: fine silver threads curled and joined one by one. The tulip is a classic Ottoman ornament, stylised rather than drawn from life.
